Upintheair Theater

About

Upintheair Theatre shapes a more equitable future by lifting and empowering the next live performance generation. We amplify the voices of emerging and equity deserving performance makers by providing the supports, systems, and resources necessary to root their long-term practices. We are a go-to company for audiences who want to experience the next flock of theatre artists and their work. We offer an open, inclusive, accessible experience to all. With a keen eye on the immediate future, we probe/expose the issues/ideas vexing our contemporary world.

UPINTHEAIR VALUES

Integrity. Hospitality. Opportunity. Relevance. Collaboration. Fun.

These values inform all the work we do. Our greatest strength is our ability to incorporate failure, criticism, and feedback to enact them. We believe all people are worthy of agency, respect, voice and recognition. We believe the most important outcome of any working relationship is that those we engage would work with us again.

Our greatest failure is when we fail to act according to our values.

If you wish to discuss these values, how we live up to them, where we can learn or have other values you hold dear, we want to hear from you.

TRUTH

All the activities of Upintheair Theatre Society take place on the unceded and ancestral traditional territories of the xʷməθkwəy̓əm (Musqueam), Skwxwú7mesh (Squamish), and Səl̓ílwətaʔ/Selilwitulh (Tsleil-Waututh) Nations. Since our inception we have been committed to building a better future on the Coast Salish lands through positive action, equitable practices, and working with emerging storytellers. We understand that only through a willingness to fail, a commitment to lifelong learning, and respect for the land we share and the stewards that came before us is this possible.

We foreground the voices of Indigenous and equity deserving folx, creating space for their emerging artworks to flourish and be shared how they wish, through what mediums, and with respect for their cultural practices and equal representation.

Becoming a member of Upintheair Theatre is FREE and entitles you to special offers, vote at our AGM, and other goodies. Help us in our mission to make art emerge in the city of Vancouver.
