Silent Howl is a performance that features visual representation of imagined brain activities through Sarah’s practice of refocus therapy, a tool she uses to conquer overstimulation. While I am exhausted of having to advocate for myself constantly in the extremely physically demanding dance world, I find my condition a “gift” at certain times. As I can notice nuances in the blend everyday life, and to feel every experience deeply, fully, and passionately. This work serves as a testament to the profound strength found in embracing one’s differences.
Sarah Hin Ching U – choreographer/performer
Alexandra Caprara – video designer
Jackson Adrian – sound composer
“The dancer’s body was beautifully integrated with the animation by Alexandra, and both were in tune with Jack Adrian’s spare jazzy soundscape.” – Kaija Pepper, Dance International 2023
Recipient of Professional Performing Artist Award from British Columbia Arts Council, 2022

Silent Howl is considered Deaf, deaf and Hard of Hearing friendly. This is a new creative access approach that the rEvolver Festival is exploring to see if ii can support community members in making content a bit more accessible when ASL may not be available and for folks who are not ASL users. Silent Howl is a movement based piece and with a musical background, but the storytelling is very visual.
The artist has created a Musical Transcript available for download in both WORD and PDF if you want to read about the music quality/tone/texture/style that accompany the movement.
If you experienced this show and used these access features, we would love any feedback that you would be willing to share.
